* 2007 Standings Michael Hansen Wins Inaugural Event
06/09/07 - The inaugural event of the Countyline Dragway Challenge Series is in the book! A GREAT time was had by all. Most importantly everyone heeded our event's motto - SAFETY FIRST. No mishaps or breakdowns, just tight racing and new friends being made.
A huge thanks goes out to Roger of Horsepower Sales - Pompano for not only sponsoring the event, but for doing yeoman's duty manually tracking the ladder for the racers. Roger, your years of drag race experience was invaluable. Did you really have a hand editing the NHRA manual?
A second thanks goes to our co-sponsor, Victor Gonzalez of Gonzales & Sons Equipment. Vic was out prepping the track at 10 am and it showed. Both lanes were running consistently and hooking well.
Congratulations go out to our event Winners!!
Your inaugural event winner was Michael Hansen in his nice Daytona Sunset Orange T/A - that car ran dead consistent all night and Michael cut some great lights in the final rounds. That !interior mod does leave a little to be desired though for your daily drive I bet! There can be only one "first event winner" ever and that's you Michael. Congratulations.
Our runner up was no less than the man Victor Gonzalez himself, beating himself at the tree with a final round red light. Too bad Vic, but your new 1000 rwhp twin turbo was running flawlessly all night, and those 6's you were putting up on the board while dialing in your new combo were impressive. Vic, what's the chances of you and I both going red in round 2 against each other with .457's. Fortunately for you, I went red first!
Our semi-final winner, Steve Davis went out with a .499 red light against Hansen in the semi final round. Tough luck Steve! But great job mowing down the field to get to that point. You have become quite the bracket racer in that 6-speed Z06. Notice that there were 2 6-speeds in the final round!
A special note goes out to Rick Mortell - sorry to call you out publicly, but you never had above .5xx all night. He's one to watch guys. Too bad you went .474 in the race against "street tires Clark". Clark, great to see you back on the track after a long hiatus - and glad you could do some pit side repairs to unexpectedly get out on the track. You owe Beatriz a big thanks for making it to the parts store and back before the first time run. That's one great thing about our new Countyline track, we're close to town for emergencies!.
Overall, with minimal promotion for our first event (we wanted to get this one under our belt to work out any kinks before we had a media blitz) we had a great turnout with 20 cars, including 8 Vettes, several beautiful T/A's, an old school Beauford (did that thing pull a wheelie?), Little Franks working his way though the rounds with his nice copper Monte, and many more. Thanks for all our Corvette Challenge at Moroso buds for showing up early and helping out. You guys are the best. And, it really was a Vette Car show before the event, there must have been 8 BEAUTIFUL Breathless C6 show cars on display next to our HP Sales dozen or so. Hey Breathless guys - I'm calling you out - let's run some of those beauties against us Horsepower Sales - Pompano race cars!! Note to those not at the event - I do this at my own peril -all of those show cars had forced induction of some kind! LOL
The only hiccups we had were:
- Lane access - the return lanes clogged and we couldn't get back to lanes 1 and 2 without some fancy parking lot work. But we've got a plan to fix that next time.
- We missed you Bob (Challenger)! See you at the next event.
- Bob P and I went out at noon and spent 3 hours trying to get the new ladder software to work but it'll take more time than that. We got the backup system working fine with a manual ladder. Have some respect for those folks in the tower at Moroso - there's a lot to that computer program! Redgar, we could have sure used your expertise. Need a FL vacation?
Pete the owner was quite happy with the turnout and a total of 163 racers for the night plus a ton of spectators (including my 2 y/o son Michael who came to his first Drag Race ever and enjoyed the drivers meeting riding my arm).
I for one made some new friends already and looking forward to more. Based on the results this will be some competitive, but friendly, racing.
Can't wait till the next event. Pics and videos were taken and will be linked in when available.
